Hoffmann has simplified its renovation project of 378 apartments with the use of a digital tool
About 18 kilometers outside of Copenhagen, Vildbanegård is located. A social housing construction, which saw its first residents moving in, in 1971. Over the years, several renovations have been carried through. Most recently the contractor, Hoffmann A/S, has been put in charge of carrying through a big renovation project that includes replacement of building facades, windows and doors, as well as bathrooms, balconies and roof terraces on 378 apartments.
To begin with, it is the bathrooms that are being renovated. Project Manager, Shoukat Naeimi is in charge of getting this done and he has decided to use the digital tool, GenieBelt to help him out.
Saves you time on project management
One of the things that makes GenieBelt great, according to Shoukat, is the way that you can save time. “On a typical construction site, you use at least 20 or 30 % of your time on workers that comes to your office to ask for instruction on what to do. So there is definitely a lot of time to save. And then I can use my time on something else,” says Shoukat.
That is possible due to the way GenieBelt works. “Through GenieBelt, you are able to make updates, so the worker can see what is ready to be made and what is not, so he does not need to turn up and waste his time. If something is not ready to be made, he can just start working on another task instead of running back and forth for no reason,” says Shoukat and adds: “We minimize the number of visit, I get from workers at the office because now they are able to keep updated by themselves. And the best part is, if deviation should occur, I can quickly set a new date.”
Prior to this, it was necessary to call people if there was any problems and now you are able to just put it in GenieBelt. It is a whole new way of communicating where workers are now able to tell each other when the next part is ready to be made. “When workers need information on when the next part is ready to be made, they do not need to wait until the next day. With GenieBelt, they are able to get answers right away. And if I am constantly busy, I am not able to use time on residents. Therefore, this gives me satisfied residents because if there is any problems, I can be there within 5 minutes since I now have the time for it.”
In that way, there are several advantages that you can get from GenieBelt according to Shoukat – also when you are making new tasks for a new project. “In the beginning, you are able to make a detailed timetable with GenieBelt, which should be used on a project, but after that, you are able to extend that to other projects. I can just copy tasks, which saves me time.”
Creates the big picture
For a Project Manager like Shoukat, who used to work in Google Docs, GenieBelt now provides him with an easier way of getting an overview of his projects.
“Through GenieBelt, you can get an overview instead of you going out and inspect every single activity that is going on, which takes a lot of time,” says Shoukat. “From where I sit, I can estimate on what date a specific task needs to be done, and I can adapt to that, so every worker has an updated version. If for instance there is a troublesome resident, I can set a new date and push that through and add a note to it”.
Something, Shoukat is particularly fond of. That he is able to add comments if anything comes up and get real-time updates whenever a task is done. That also includes forgotten tasks. “Sometimes it occurs that somebody forgets a task and then I can click on that and ask what is going on. Instead of me calling, I can just add a comment through GenieBelt. This thing, where you are getting reminders, is a great thing. It creates an overview.”
At the same time, Shoukat has been able to reduce his weekly meetings, where status on the project needed to be told and possible changes should be carried through. Now he is able to have 1 meeting per month instead because there is no need for more. As Shoukat says, “GenieBelt can be used everywhere, there is no limit. You can make projects in great detail, and everything need to be in detail.”
