Jerram Falkus has optimized its way of doing business by using GenieBelt
Martin Hickey, who is a Project Leader at Jerram Falkus says he is impressed with how GenieBelt is working and would be surprised if it does not result in reduced expenses. What GenieBelt provides, is a flexible solution where you can adjust your plans according to stakeholders and share information among people. It is as Martin says:
“It shows everyone’s responsibility, across the design team and the subcontractors, and we are currently about 70 different operatives working on site that uses GenieBelt.” And this, improved way of communicating, has turned out to be valuable. “The benefits to the overall team in being able to get an instant update have proved to invaluable,” Martin says.
GenieBelt – A Game Changer
As with any other new system, people tend to be skeptical for change and that was also the case for Jerram Falkus. “The ideal is that everyone does their own reporting, but as it is custom when implementing new systems, there have been a bit of resistance to change, where we had some mixed experience in getting all the contractors to do their reporting. But most people carry a smartphone these days, so it should be possible”, Martin says – referring to that workers can snap and upload photos of construction tasks and mark when the job is done.
And now people really like it, and subcontractors has started to use it too. “In general the workers really like GenieBelt. We have worked about 130 years in the construction business, and we use some subcontractors more often than others. The ones we work with the most also use GenieBelt more, since they know we prefer to use it.”
Another benefit, which Martin points out, is the way the company have been able to cut down on delays. “The main problem about

delays is when people don’t know where they are in a process.
For example, a team may arrive on Monday and expect to be finished with a task Friday – but gets delayed a day. This scenario tends to actually cost more than a day, since everyone else have to adjust their plans to it. And if a team finishes early and nobody knows
about it, you cannot gain economically from it. Finishing quicker always makes money and that is how GenieBelt helps us.”
According to Martin it is essential to be up to date and get accurate progress reports. This is where GenieBelt has proved to be helpful because it can used for exactly that and enables Jerram Falkus to save time by being proactive. “I knew GenieBelt was a real game changer for us as soon as I started,” Martin concludes.
